Bistricki Borderland е reserve в Vitosha Nature Park. It is one of the first reserves in Bulgaria established in 1934. The purpose of its creation was to preserve unchanged the vegetation that is typical for the mountain - centuries-old Spruce forests, shrub vegetation and grasslands. Via 1977 The reserve is included in the programme of UNESCO - "Man and the Biosphere" and was named the biosphere reserve

Today the territory of the reserve covers an area of 1061.6 hectares - 52 % forests and 48 % meadows - subalpine and alpine grassland formations. The predominant forest species is spruce, with some beech. Birch, aspen and white fir are also present. The average age of the forest is 100-120 years and the average height of the trees exceeds 25 m. The oldest spruce trees are 140-150 years old, up to 1.30 m in diameter.

Movement through the reserve is allowed only on the marked trails, and permission is required from the Ministry of Environment and Water to visit off the marked trails.
